Pensions of civil servants and military veterans from the SATBVC states: The President's instructions - United Democratic Movement

In the State of the Nation debate of 14 February 2023 in Parliament in the City Hall I had raised the issue of pensions of civil servants and military veterans from the SATBVC states, after which President Cyril Ramaphosa had indicated in his reply that: “The Honourable Holomisa has raised the issue of the pensions of civil servants and military veterans from the TBVC states. These are indeed issues that need to be considered. The Deputy President heads a task team on benefits for military veterans, which has a workstream on pension. I have asked this task team to provide report on this issue. I have further asked the Minister of Finance to set up a team to look into the pensions for civil servants from the TBVC states.”

The draft constitutional amendment bill (the Bill) allowing land expropriation without compensation (EWC) is already damaging enough to make South Africa largely uninvestable.
The Ad Hoc Committee (the Committee) responsible for drafting the Bill is nevertheless considering amending it – and making it very much worse – in three crucial ways.
In particular, the Bill might be changed to:
- limit the role of the courts in deciding on ‘nil’ compensation;

Three proposed amendments to EWC "damaging enough to make SA uninvestable"

The draft constitutional amendment bill (the Bill) allowing land expropriation without compensation (EWC) is already damaging enough to make South Africa largely uninvestable.
The Ad Hoc Committee (the Committee) responsible for drafting the Bill is nevertheless considering amending it – and making it very much worse – in three crucial ways.
In particular, the Bill might be changed to:
limit the role of the courts in deciding on ‘nil’ compensation;
extend the ‘nil’ compensation provisions from land to property of all kinds; and
make the state the custodian of all land, as the EFF continues to demand.
Such changes are potentially momentous. Yet how much public participation will be allowed on these further changes remains unclear.

CAPE TOWN - The Department of Defence has been grilled in Parliament over its illegal importation from Cuba of nearly a million vials of anti-viral drug, Interferon, at a cost of R260 million.
The first consignment of the drug landed in South Africa last year, together with Cuban medical personnel.
The drug is unregistered for use in South Africa and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) only applied to the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) for authorisation for its bulk use months later when it was denied.
