It has been a devastating year for Florida’s tourism industry, yet Legoland Florida Resort has signaled that it plans to expand.
A contractor for the theme park has filed plans with the city of Winter Haven indicating a planned new attraction in what is now the north area of the parking lot.
The proposed expansion, dubbed “Project Venus” and first reported by the Orlando Sentinel, would cover about 4½ acres. An architectural rendering shows the new section lying between Legoland Way, the park’s entrance road, and a bus loop, just west of Cypress Gardens Boulevard.
The rendition, prepared by the Lunz Group, based in Lakeland, depicts at least six rides or attractions and a nearly 12,000-square-foot building, possibly a restaurant. The drawing suggests that a pedestrian crosswalk across Bus Loop Drive would connect the new area to the main park near Lego Movie World.
