because they expect continuous rain until about wednesday, they don't think these hillsides will be stable enough to hold and they're concerned about more mudslides in this area. so this likely will be closed at least until wednesday, greg. greg: bob, malibu is such a beautiful place but it is a dangerous place. it seems like this happens, you know, almost every year. have they told people to get out? are there any evacuations? have any homes collapsed so far? >> reporter: you know, malibu is, not just malibu, but all of southern california. i will show you and spin around you were talking about pacific coast highway how beautiful it is. there is the beach. you can see a lot of surfers still taking advantage of the heavy surf out here during the rainstorm. let me tell you there is a flash food watch in effect until wednesday. there are certain areas of great concern. in fact the locking out of the flintridge area which had a fire a couple years ago and last year you may recall there were some mudslides that destroyed or
the golden state and fox affiliate kttv reporter bob decastro in malibu with the latest. bob, what is happening there? . >> reporter: greg we moved west of malibu because they moved this closure up. as you said on the pacific coast highway. behind me you see the road closure. this is the four to five mile stretch that is now closed. there were mudslides triggered overnight at nine okay last night. i was told by caltrans it was three feet deep at some points, debris, mud. right now i'm told there are boulders in the roadway. in fact you can see one of the front-loaders going through from caltrans. they will be moving some of those boulders to the side. once they clear this, i'm told it will be cleared fairly quickly, it doesn't mean they will let traffic through here. they have got geologists from the u.s. geological survey out here lacking at the hillsides, what we're being told at this hour
