Upendra Tripathy, the outgoing director-general (DG) of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), has played a key role in setting up the first treaty-based international government organization to be based in India. Tripathy, a former secretary in the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE), passes on the baton to Ajay Mathur, who earlier headed the New Delhi-based The Energy and Research Institute. In recognition of his service, Tripathy was accorded the honorary title of founding director-general emeritus by the ISA assembly. In an interview, Tripathy said that the World Solar Bank (WSB) and global electricity grid may be launched at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, and countered the perception of ISA becoming a significant public policy tool for India. Information technology (IT) companies are offering non-financial perks to employees to reduce attrition levels, which are likely to go up as the demand for tech professionals bounces back. Employers this year are offering more leaves, career enhancement paths, and flexible work environment as benefits, besides salary hikes to retain employees.
Hiring has picked up across the spectrum in 2021 and voluntary attrition may rise from last year’s low levels when people found it risky to change jobs during the pandemic.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) plans to launch the World Solar Bank (WSB) at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow in November, a top ISA official said, a development that will support India’s attempt to secure leadership in the climate arena. The ISA is the first treaty-based international government organization headquartered in India.
The development assumes significance, given that green finance will be among priority themes at the climate meet called COP-26, which comes in the backdrop of US re-joining the Paris climate accord. The ISA was co-founded by India at the 2015 climate change conference in Paris.
