have not and of course, measures that have been used to address that have not gotten very far. we are going to talk momentarily with the two congressmen from texas, both named gonzalez, spelled differently and what it takes to improve the situation, right now bad to worse. casey stegall with stunning numbers out. what happens now. he s at eagle pass with more. good to see you. governor abbott, as you know made a stop here in eagle pass this past week on thursday along with more than 20 state lawmakers where they touted the success of operation lonestar. as you know, operation lonestar is the state s border enforcement and security mission, a mission, by the way, with more than a $10 billion price tag so far. the governor essentially saying texas will continue to take matters into its own hands until the biden administration or congress takes steps to slow the migrant surge. abbott says they re currently working on a plan to add more national guard troops in and around ....
surprise me, even after travelling for nearly 20 years countries that appear to be one thing but, when you dig a little deeper, turn out to be something completely different. this is pretty spectacular. it is, it is. and i m loving all the colours. the cabo verde archipelago, located just over 600km from senegal s coast, is one of them. tourism has really picked up pace here in recent decades, and it s easy to see why crystal clear waters, golden beaches, year round sun, all the ingredients for an amazing holiday. but i feel there s so much more to this place just waiting to be discovered by travellers like us. and all you have to do is head beyond the beaches. i ve been lucky enough to explore a lot of africa, but what i ve heard about cabo verde is that you get this real sense of worlds and cultures colliding. so, if you take a look at the shops and some of the market stalls, they re selling african style arts and crafts. the churches look like they ve been lifted ....
who s got loads to say. it s thangam debbonaire, shadow leader of the house of commons. hello, hello, hello. and thank you so much for mentioning us in the house of commons last week. this is how it went. the leader famously once reassured this house that another prime minister wasn t hiding under a desk. words immortalised on the bbc s newscast intro. now i hear from the parliamentary press gallery reception news that she s a big fan of the podcasts. so, mr speaker, i ll end by tempting her to update newscast and update this house. is that where the prime minister really was on monday evening, hiding under a desk? so this is a great way for our politicians to get on the podcast. just name check us in parliament, put us in the historic record forever for historians to read about. and then you can come on. yeah, but i m the first, i was the first to put newscast in hansard and that was very exciting moment. i mean, if this starts an arms race, it will be amazing. who kno ....
what is your view? is it the end of humanity or a bit more of a benign force? well, it could be somewhere in between, i would say. i mean, ithink, like a lot of people, so i ve toyed around with like the chat bots and things, and things like that, chatgpt. we d actually, we d wrapped on this latest series of black mirror and then, and then the next month chatg pt came out. one of our episodes is quite timely. there s a sort of ai generated imagery thing going on in one of our episodes. but i toyed around with chatgpt and you sort of type in like, come up with a black mirror storyline, or something like that or, say something in the style of philomena cunk, or something like that, and it will do, it will spit out something that at first glance you get a kind of sudden spike of dread and think, that s it, i m out of a job, this thing has replaced me, because it looks convincing. but that s really. where we re at at the moment, that s really what it s doing, it s jus ....
an international star for over 30 years now. i was really looking forward to meeting nicole in london, but even as superstars, travel plans can be ruined these days, so we talked virtually. nicole kidmanjoining us from los angeles, welcome to this cultural life. thank you. thank you for having me. you were born in hawaii and moved to sydney with your australian parents at the age of four. your father was a clinical psychologist and biochemist. was it a creative upbringing? yeah, absolutely. i mean, as much as i grew up the daughter of a scientist who became a psychologist, i was also the daughter of a nurse educator, but they were both academics. um, but there was an enormous love of the arts. i was always taken to the theatre, opera, symphonies. my mother loves opera. what are your earliest memories of favourite films? i would go to a place called the independent theatre, which would show films, and we were all allowed to flop around on bean bags. they didn t have chai ....
