Community Takes Part In Falconer Clean Up | News, Sports, Jobs


FALCONER The community came together Saturday to once again clean up the village.
A large group of community members met at the Falconer Fire Hall and were welcomed by Mayor Jim Jaroszynski, Falconer Rotary President Brenda Weiler, and Falconer Central School Superintendent Stephen Penhollow.
Jaroszynski reminded the group that the event was not held last year due to COVID-19 restrictions by the CDC; however, with the state opening and more guidelines being loosened, it was decided that the clean-up day was safe to hold. Residents that were not able to attend were encouraged to clean up around their own properties. ....

Marvin R. Bader, 87, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 5:12 pm Saturday, May 1, 2021, in UPMC Chautauqua, surrounded by loving family members.
Marvin was born Oct. 8, 1933, in Falconer, N.Y., the only child of the late Roy W. and Ella Anderson Bader.
He was a veteran of the U.S Army serving from June 24, 1953 to May 31,1955, during and after the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a 1951 graduate of Falconer Central School and earned his associates degree from Jamestown Community College in 1957, where he met his future wife, Caroline T. Hornsten. After they married, they moved to the Washington, D.C., area, where Marv earned his bachelor’s degree in history from George Washington University in 1961. He and Caroline made the Washington, D.C., area their home for 43 years where they raised their family. ....

County recognizes 12th week of COVID-19 Heroes | News, Sports, Jobs

MAYVILLE Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel and the COVID-19 Response Team recently announced the twelfth week of COVID-19 Hero nominations for April 26-30. Nominations are recognized in a video posted weekdays on the Chautauqua County Government Facebook page, and each nominee receives a personal note from the County Executive’s Office.
“Our heroes this week continue to reflect the important theme of those caring for the wellbeing of others,” said County Executive PJ Wendel. “I want to again personally thank our week twelve nominees: the Lutheran Nursing Home staff, Tamara Racino, Kenneth Long II, Dr. Mary Ann Spanos, Rosie Digirolamo, Stephanie Kelly, Charlene Burch, and Brigid Wonderly. These individuals have risen to the challenge of helping others during a global pandemic, and are truly our COVID-19 Heroes.” ....

Karen Dohne Cotten passed away at 11:55 p.m. on April 27, 2021, peace-fully at home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 10, 1944, in Syracuse to the late Raymond and Virginia (Gulgusky) Dohne.
Karen graduated from Liverpool High School in 1962 and from SUNY Brockport in 1966. She then began her teaching career at Falconer Central School, where she taught physical education and health for 35 years before retiring in 2005. While there, she touched numerous lives as a teacher, athletic director, coach, and friend. Her presence there remains strong as the tennis courts were named for her in 2007. After retiring, she continued to substitute teach for 15 years until becoming sick. She was so blessed to have many of her Falconer family with her until the end. ....
