Over 60% of natural gas pipeline extension completed in Salisbury

The Salisbury City Council heard the latest update Monday evening on a controversial natural gas pipeline set to extend service to Somerset County.
The Del-Mar Energy Pathway pipeline will extend natural gas service to Eastern Correctional Institution and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, as both anchors look to transition off more polluting fuels.
Chesapeake Utilities Corp. got the unanimous green light from the Maryland Board of Public Works in January for the $34 million project, which will add nearly seven miles of 10-inch-diameter gas pipeline from Delaware, through Wicomico County and into Somerset County.
Residents and businesses along the line will soon have the choice to use environmentally beneficial and less expensive natural gas service, wrote Justin Mulcahy, spokesman for Chesapeake Utilities Corp., in a statement that month, something elected officials and community members have advocated ....

New dog park opens in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury’s furry friends now have a brand new place to play. Community leaders attended a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday for the new Downtown Bark Park. The project was funded in part by community donations, plus funding from SVN Miller Commercial Real Estate and Avery Hall Insurance Group. The dog park is located next to Brew River, on the corner of West Main and Lake Streets.
Acting Julia Mayor Glanz says revitalizing this once forgotten part of downtown isn’t just about giving dogs a place to play. “You walked by this park before and you blew right past it. It felt much smaller, didn’t really have anything. You walked through it to get somewhere else. It wasn’t a destination on its own. So we’re so excited to have given it new meaning, and a new life,” said Acting Mayor Glanz. ....
