Markets have been dominated by the response to the pandemic through both fiscal stimulus and very loose monetary conditions. In general, these policies have been very positive for risk assets like equities. More recently, as the end of the crisis has become more visible, the expectation of a surge in economic activity has unsettled bond markets and been to the benefit of more cyclical markets and sectors, where earnings momentum is likely to be strong. The portfolio positioning reflects these shifting sands, while recognising that government policies still provide a tailwind.

The objective of the Managed Growth share class is long term capital growth. In the six month period, the portfolio outperformed its benchmark and delivered a total return on net assets of 15.5%, compared with the portfolio s benchmark which returned 9.9%. New research from AJ Bell has found four UK fund managers beat Warren Buffett over the last 20 years.
Overall 160 funds and investment trusts have returned more than Berkshire Hathaway since 2001.
While the majority are niche small-cap funds, 24 are comparable to Berkshire Hathaway and invest in developed market large caps.
Since 1965, Buffett has returned 2,810,526% to Berkshire Hathaway investors.
Over the last twenty years, Berkshire Hathaway has returned 507.5% to UK investors, in pounds and pence, compared to 353.1% from the S&P 500.
When looking at developed market large-cap equity funds, which are comparable to Berkshire Hathaway, 24 funds have performed better than the US giant. ....
