BOONVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The deadline to apply for COVID relief grant funding from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs expired this past week.
As of Thursday, businesses in Boonville were eagerly awaiting that money.
Donna Ellis, owner of Yesterdaze, said that running a restaurant has been difficult over the last year.
“Sometimes you just want to sit down and cry,” she said. “But that doesn’t help much.”
Ellis has been running Yesterdaze for 20 years, but even her most loyal customers have needed to stay safe in a pandemic.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A few lovable residents at Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden took part in a little game of “Giraffe, Giraffe, Goose” on Wednesday, and it was all caught on camera.
14 News viewer Brice Bolin captured this video of a goose finding its way into the giraffe and zebra exhibit, catching the attention of Clementine and Kijana.
Instead of flying away, the goose kept waddling way with both giraffes following closely.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - As businesses throughout the Hoosier State struggle to find staff, a change in Indiana’s unemployment insurance rules may bring more candidates to companies.
As 14 News previously shared on Tuesday, it’s now required for Hoosiers to prove they are trying to be hired in order to be eligible for benefits.
Lots of jobs are available, and the problem seems to be finding the people to fill them.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - The International Center of Owensboro is showing a movie, hoping to bring awareness to a situation overseas.
They’ll be showing “Free Burma Rangers” this weekend.
It’s a documentary about what’s happening in Myanmar.
Many people from Myanmar have made Owensboro home, so the International Center hopes this event can help educate the community.
“A lot of people see the news of what’s going on over there and they think, ‘Okay. That’s happening half way across the world,’ but we’ve been resettling Burmese refugees for about 10 years now,” said Anna Allen, Site Director at the International Center of Owensboro. “So these are people in Owensboro who are our neighbors and our friends, and we really want to bring awareness to what’s going on with our neighbors.”

Zoo officials tell us they’re getting closer to completing their Penguins of Patagonia exhibit.
They expect the exhibit to be finished by the end of summer.
As for restrictions, the zoo is requiring you to reserve a time slot online before you come, but you don’t have to do that if you’re a zoo member.
