British firms employ more crowdworkers than anywhere else in Europe, according to new data released by scientists at Oxford University.
Crowdwork is a type of online outsourcing, or gig-work, where people are hired on a per-task or per-project basis via online platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk, Upwork or People Per Hour.
We re not talking about Uber drivers in this case or people that work for Deliveroo, it s work that s mediated online and it s also happening online, said Fabian Stephany, a researcher who works on Oxford University s iLabour project. ....
