Big Red Radio Takes Caring Christmas Food Drive to H&R Block

There are just a few stops left on the 18th annual Caring Christmas Food Drive, with the Big Red Radio broadcasting live from H&R Block in Washington tomorrow.
KCII will be accepting food and monetary donations from 1-3 p.m., where participants can also get entered into the $1,000 Caring Christmas Giveaway. The giveaway winner will be announced on January 15th. Donations received at H&R Block will go toward Washington-based food pantries. The KCII Big Red Radio has been traveling to food drive business sponsors across the listening area and will be making its next stop at Fetch Pet Center in Williamsburg this Monday. KCII will be broadcasting live from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., where people can drop off food and monetary donations for local food pantries. Sounds of the Season, Radio Play Rebroadcasts this Week on KCII

KCII is giving you Sounds of the Season the next several days with special blocks of programming, including rebroadcasts of live radio plays that were originally performed in partnership with the Washington Community Theater, Washington Public Library, and Main Street Washington.
KCII will be playing holiday music from 5 a.m.-midnight tomorrow and Christmas day with a rebroadcast of the “Miracle on 34th Street” radio play from 8-9 p.m. tomorrow and “A Christmas Carol” airing from 3-4 p.m. on Friday. Sounds of the Season will continue with nonstop holiday music from 1-10 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. As Santa Claus has many stops to make this holiday season, so does the KCII Big Red Radio for the 18th annual Caring Christmas Food Drive.
KCII will be broadcasting live from 2-4 p.m. Monday at Freeman Foods in Wellman, where people can drop off monetary and food donations to go to that community’s food pantry. The public can also donate hands free by scanning the QR code table topper at the food drive’s participating businesses, or by clicking the “Big Red Button” at kciiradio.com. Local Food Pantry Operating Differently in Light of COVID-19

KCII’s Caring Christmas Food Drive collects food and monetary donations to give to area food pantries, many of which have seen an increased need or have had to adjust their operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Church of God Food Bank in Washington is one of the Caring Christmas Food Drive’s recipients and has operated for over a decade. Anyone is welcome to receive food from the church, typically on the fourth Thursday of the month from 1:30-4:30 p.m., though because of the upcoming holidays they will be open on December 17th. Coordinator Dean Elmore explains that since the pandemic they have distributed food boxes on the east side of the building instead of allowing visitors inside, “We have a table set out there and they call and tell us whether we need to get the box ready, take it out there and set it on the table. And then we get a box of frozen food too, meat and stuff and put it out there, and then they come out there and they pick it up and take it and go ....
