Dhaka-Delhi A Tightrope Relation Imperative

Dhaka-Delhi A Tightrope Relation Imperative
The New Nation

Geopolitical compulsion dictates that laying the foundation of friendly relation with neighboring countries should be the cornerstone of Bangladesh foreign policy. It should logically be dictated to focus attention on India which is surrounded from three sides but Bangladesh has been sandwiched between two giant neighbors of Asia: India and China. Therefore, Bangladesh could not ignore China either as well. As a matter of fact, ancient Bengal has had the best of relation with China.
Presently, India is contesting against China since the maiden visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of BJP on 6 and 7 June in 2015 as a part of his neighborhood first programme when he exchanged instrument of ratification of 1974 Land Boundary agreement with Bangladesh removing major irritation between two countries.

Sanjaya Baru captures the churn brought about by the 2014 general election, the rise of the BJP and its impact on the social and cultural landscape
The ascent of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national arena has disrupted politics as we knew it. The dominance of Modi and that of the Bharatiya Janata Party over political discourse and elections, both national and Assembly, sometimes winning a State even when the party had no footprint there, has dismantled coalition politics that was prevalent over the last 30 years. Political commentators and sociologists have been exploring ideas and templates to capture the nature of the changes that this electoral dominance has engendered.

New Delhi, April 6 : Attacking the Opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas has changed the meaning of secularism.
Addressing BJP workers on the occasion of its 41st foundation day, Modi said: Parties, who were wearing a mask of false secularism, are finally being unmasked. For them secularism means planning, policy and favour for few. But Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas has changed the meaning of secularism.

India-Pakistan Peace Efforts: Meaning for Hindustani Muslims

The Muslims of India (and Bihar) with their countrymen will heave a sigh of relief if normalcy returns in relationship with Pakistan. The Hindustani Muslims are often unjustifiably looked upon as siding with the hostile neighbor country just for the reason of religion.
Encouraged by the UAE, a flurry of diplomatic efforts are reportedly on the way to bring India and Pakistan back on friendly terms. Much meaning has been attached to the speeches of the Pakistani Defense chief, General Bajwa who basically proposed to “bury the past and move on.”
Many observers and experts are, however, cautiously optimists. If Pakistan is showing willingness to have a thaw in the relationship, it’s more because of Pakistan s domestic compulsions: Its economy, now dependent heavily on extortionist China, is in terrible shape; the nationalist and independence movements are getting stronger in Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. Even Punjab is restless.

Row over sedition in LS, Congress says law being misused | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress and the government clashed in Lok Sabha on Tuesday over sedition cases with the opposition party alleging that the stringent law was being misused, with a reference to the Disha Ravi case. This drew a sharp retort from junior home minister G Kishan Reddy who said Congress s use of laws like TADA showed it should not lecture on democracy.
During question hour, Congress member from Telangana Anumula Revanth Reddy sought the number of cases registered under the offence of sedition in the country during the last 10 years, the conviction rate and the steps taken for their speedy trial. The focus of his question was on climate activist Disha Ravi, who was arrested in the farmers’ protest toolkit case and was later granted bail, and cases registered against farm union leaders after the January 26 violence in the national capital.

Why take away the power of elected leaders in Delhi? BJP leaders offer conflicting answers

Why take away the power of elected leaders in Delhi? BJP leaders offer conflicting answers
A BJP spokesperson blamed Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure for his party concluding that Delhi ‘has to be a Union Territory whatever the cost may be.’
AFP
For years, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party campaigned for the national capital to be declared a full state, rather than a Union Territory with an elected assembly. Since Arvind Kejriwal has taken over as chief minister, that demand has not only been dropped – it has also led to an effort to take power away from Delhi’s elected leadership.
