Exchange Club donation makes helping foster families in Chickasaw a little bit easier


HOUSTON – The Exchange Club recently made a donation to Children s Refuge Ministries as part of their community outreach.
Children s Refuge Ministries, formerly known as The Refuge-Chickasaw, is a foster care closet where families of foster children can come and get much needed supplies to help raise these children.
After speaking to the Exchange Club at one of their meetings before the COVID-19 pandemic set in, the club was determined to help The Refuge out with a donation to their organization. However, the pandemic and some tax documents slowed that process a bit.
“Up to this point, the organization operated as a non-profit organization, but had not applied with the Internal Revenue Service for tax exempt status under IRC Section 501(c)(3) nor had we registered with the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office as a Charitable Organization,” said Mary Jon Rea, one of the founders of the organization. “By doing so, contributions made by the pub ....

Shirin Akhter was on duty at the Shakti Crisisline in Auckland when a call came through from a terrified woman. Her abusive husband was under a police safety order due to expire and he was coming back into her bubble the next day. Alaska state-owned corporation approves spending up to $20 million on oil leases in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Alaska’s state-owned economic development corporation on Wednesday agreed to spend up to $20 million to buy leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s coastal plain in an effort to support future oil exploration and drilling there.
The seven-member board of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority unanimously granted the corporation’s director permission to bid following 90 minutes of public comments, a two-hour private meeting and a final 30-minute public session.
The proposal faced broad public opposition, including complaints that the measure was being rushed through with little public review two days before Christmas. But several board members, in describing their support for the measure, said money from oil that flows from the refuge can support much-needed jobs in Alaska and pay for renewable energy projects that opponents of the investment have said they preferred. ....
