Pakistan to stay on FATF grey list due to 'serious deficiencies' in checking terror financing

New Delhi: Pakistan was unable to come out of the ‘grey list’ of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as the Paris-based global body against money laundering and terror financing said Thursday there are still “serious deficiencies” on the part of the country in checking terror financing.
The global watchdog gave Pakistan time till June 2021 to meet all the parameters on issues related to terror financing.
In a strong message, the FATF said in its statement after its meeting that Pakistan needs to address some of the concerns by “demonstrating effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions against all 1267 and 1373 UN-designated terrorists, specifically those acting for or on their behalf”. ....

The FATF Plenary, which is highest decision-making body of terror financing watchdog, will be taking its final decision on Pakistan Thursday.

Paris: Pakistan is likely to remain in the grey list of the Paris-based terror finance watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for now. 
While Islamabad was hoping to come out of the grey list in the ongoing February Plenary, France, sources said, has recommended status quo.
According to highly placed sources, other European countries back France’s view that Pakistan should stay on the grey list until it complies with all the 27 parameters set by the watchdog to crack down on terror financing.  ....

On 18 December, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) at the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced highly anticipated and controversial new proposed requirements designed to mitigate illicit finance risks associated with “unhosted” virtual currency wallets and wallets hosted in certain foreign jurisdictions with weak anti-money laundering regimes.
