A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday sentenced a priest and a nun to life imrisonment in connection with Sister Abhaya murder case. 
The special CBI court sentenced accused Father Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy to life term holding them responsible for the murder of 19-year-old nun Abhaya in 1992. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6.50 lakh and Rs 5.50 lakh respectively on the two convicts, news agency ANI reported.
The Special court had said the accused were guilty of murder in the case under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (tamperingof evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.

A special CBI court in Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram today sentenced to life imprisonment a Catholic priest and a nun for the murder of Sister Abhaya, 28 years after the crime. The sentencing came a day after the two were held guilty by the court. Sister Abhaya, 21, was murdered and her body was dumped inside the well of a convent in Kottayam in 1992.

A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Wednesday sentenced Fr. Thomas M. Kottoor and Sister Sephy to life imprisonment for the murder of 19-year-old novice Sister Abhaya, who was found dead in a well at Pious X convent of the Knanaya Catholic order in Kottayam in March 1992.

Thiruvananthapuram: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday announced the quantum of punishment of the two persons convicted for the murder of Sister Abhaya. The two convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment. 
Both accused Sister Sephy and Father Thomas Kottoor were convicted by the CBI court on Tuesday. The judgement was ordered after a wait of 28 years by CBI judge K Sanal Kumar. Another accused in the case, Father Jose Poothrikkayil, was discharged by the CBI Court last year.

After 28 Years, CBI Court convicts Priest & Nun in Sister Abhaya Case

Thiruvananthapuram: In the 28 year old Sister Abhaya murder case, a court in Kerala pronounced a guilty verdict on Monday.
A Special CBI Court in Thiruvananthapuram found Father Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy, a priest and nun of the Catholic Church respectively, guilty of murder in the case.
The details of the reasoning and the findings of the court will be known after the full copy of the judgment is released.
Special CBI Judge K Sanal Kumar, who handed down the guilty verdict, will pronounce the sentence for the convicts tomorrow. Kottoor has been found guilty for offences under Sections 302(murder), 201(destruction of evidence) and 449(criminal trespass) of the Indian Penal Code .Sephy was held guilty for offences under Sections 302 and 201 IPC.
