AGC applies to strike out originating summons of Mun Chol Myong

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has applied to strike out the originating summons filed by a North Korean businessman against the government of Malaysia, government of United States as well as three others on the extradition order to the United States on the man.
Senior Federal Counsel (SFC), Ahmad Hanir Hambaly said AGC filed the application on April 7 on the ground that the originating summons submitted by Mun Chol Myong, 55, as the plaintiff has become academic after he was extradited to US.
“Apart from that, the matters raised by the plaintiff are precluded by res judicata as they were raised during the habeas corpus proceedings in the High Court here on Dec 12 2019. ....

High court upholds jail, fine on ex-english daily assistant manager

LUMPUR: The High Court here today upheld the 30 months jail and RM100,000 fine imposed on a former assistant manager in the editorial department of English daily, The Star for receiving RM20,000 bribe, in 2017.
Judge Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh passed the judgment after dismissing an appeal by M. Youganesparan, 57, against the conviction and sentence handed down by the Sessions Court on Dec 18, 2018.
The judge ruled that the evidence adduced by the prosecution of the fact that the accused received the RM20,000 was overwhelming as the monies were in the form of marked notes in RM100 denominations. ....
