Bonita G. âBonnieâ Fischer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on July 14, 2021, surrounded by family, after an extended memory care residency in Denver. She was 98.
Bonnie was born on June 10, 1923, in Liberty Center, Ohio, to parents Neva and Thomas Bichan. She graduated from Liberty Center High School and earned a bachelorâs degree in home economics from nearby Bowling Green College (now Bowling Green State University in Ohio), where she met lifelong friends in her Alpha Phi Sorority and sang as an accomplished member of a college trio. In those early years, Bonnie became an active participant in youth camp at Michiganâs Camp Miniwanca and the American Youth Foundation. ....

Free Leave No Trace workshop at Horn Field Campus Feb. 20

MACOMB Western Illinois University s Horn Field Campus will host a free Leave No Trace awareness workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.
The workshop will introduce the seven principles of Leave No Trace, the cover, low-impact recreational techniques used to be better stewards of the environment. Participants will receive a certificate for successful completion, which is acknowledged by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
Registration is open to the public; masks are required; and CDC guidelines will be followed.
The workshop is being taught by WIU graduate student Kassey Trahanas, Mobile, Alabama, who spent several years as an environmental educator, including three years as an eco-tour guide for AmeriCorps and local environmental agencies in costal Alabama. She recently became a Leave No Trace Master Educator. ....
