For the Second Year in a Row, Illinois American Water Ranks #1 in J.D. Power Water Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study in Midwest Large Region

For the second year in a row, Illinois American Water, a subsidiary of American Water Company (NYSE: AWK), has received the J.D. Power award for ranking highest in customer satisfaction among large water utilities in the Midwest according to the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Water Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM.
Illinois American Water also ranked #1 in the Midwest in the 2016 study, which was the first year for the J.D. Power Water Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study. The study measures satisfaction among residential customers of 90 water utilities that deliver water to at least 400,000 customers and is reported in four geographic regions and two size categories: Midwest Large, Midwest Midsize, Northeast Large, Northeast Midsize, South Large, South Midsize, West Large and West Midsize. WVAW seeks water, sewer rate hikes

West Virginia-American Water Company is seeking a rate increase for water service for about 167,000 customers in 19 counties, including Fayette, Mercer, Raleigh and Summers.
According to a press release from Jackson Kelly PLLC, the increase will directly or indirectly affect customers of public service districts, regional development authorities, municipalities or other governmental subdivisions that, upon approval of the state Public Service Commission, are charged water rates in whole or part based on WVAW s rates. Those include Lashmeet PSD, Jumping Branch/Nimitz PSD, New Haven PSD and Oakvale Road PSD.
Proposed increased rates will go into effect on Feb. 25, 2022, if approved by the PSC. ....

New York Town Brings 'Forever Chemical' Water Supply Contamination Complaint

On Tuesday, the town of New Windsor sued the federal government, the state of New York, chemical manufacturing companies, and myriad other defendants for allegedly tainting its drinking water with per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The complaint contended that PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foams (AFFFs) were used in training exercises and to extinguish fires at Stewart International Airport (SIA) and a nearby Air Force base. From there, the lingering chemicals reportedly seeped into the soil and groundwater, contaminating the town’s drinking water supply.
The complaint explained that New Windsor, located in Orange County, New York, supplies water for its 30,000 residents. The filing grouped the defendants into three classes, claiming that the federal government, in concert with the 3M Company, developed PFAS in the mid-1960s. ....

Columbia Market House opening, 3 new businesses in York, Lancaster


After three years sitting empty, the Columbia Market House will be re-opening next month. 
The historic market, which dates back to 1869, will re-open on Saturday, May 29 featuring 19 local vendors and a full-service restaurant, Gypsy Kitchen.
We re bringing life back to this building for the community, market manager Kelsey Miller said. 
Miller, who doubles as the healthy communities program manager at CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health, will oversee daily operations at the market. CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health and the Columbia Borough have partnered together to breathe new life into the historic site. 
Columbia Borough manager Mark Stivers said the market had been vacant since 2017. The current project began picking up steam in summer 2019 and now the grand opening will market the completion of the first phase of the near $3 million project, he said. The second phase will include additional parking for the market house and visitors to downtown Columbia ....
