Poll: Americans back new spending, tax hikes on wealthy, but remain wary of economic impact

Majority of voters say surge at border is a crisis: poll

A vast majority of voters say they believe the surge in immigrants at the southern border is a crisis, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill on Monday.
Eighty percent of the poll’s respondents said the current situation at the border is “a crisis that needs to be addressed immediately,” while 20 percent said it was “something that can be dealt with by the immigration system we have currently.”
However, respondents were split over whether unaccompanied minors who crossed the southern border into the U.S. were being kept in humane conditions. Fifty-four percent said children were being treated humanely, while 46 percent said they were being treated inhumanely. ....

Poll: Majority approve of Biden's job in office

Fifty-nine percent of voters say they approve of President Biden
Thirty-three percent of respondents said they “strongly approved” of the president’s job in office so far, while 26 percent said they “somewhat approve.”
Thirty-eight percent said they disapproved of Biden’s job in office, with 29 percent saying they “strongly disapproved” and 9 percent saying they “somewhat disapproved.”

The poll comes nearly a week after Biden hit his 100-day mark in office. The president delivered his first joint address to Congress last week, proposing major progressive measures, including roughly $4 trillion more in spending on traditional infrastructure such as roads and bridges and social infrastructure such as better child care, paid leave and cheaper college. ....

Trump's favorability, unfavorable ratings nearly level 100 days after leaving office: poll

Forty-six percent of respondents said they had a favorable opinion of the former president, according to the poll, while 48 percent said they had an unfavorable view of him.

52 percent say there is a climate emergency: poll

Voters are split over whether the world is facing a climate emergency, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill on Monday.
Fifty-two percent of respondents said they believe “we are under a climate emergency,” while 48 percent said they did not believe there is a climate emergency.
The poll showed a stark partisan divide over the issue, with 70 percent of Republicans saying they did not believe there was a climate emergency and 74 percent of Democrats saying the opposite.

The results also appear to reveal a racial divide over the issue.
White respondents were split on the issue, with 52 percent saying they did not believe there was a climate emergency and 48 percent saying they believed there was an emergency. Of Black adults surveyed, however, 65 percent said there was a climate emergency and 35 percent said there was not an emergency. Sixty-three percent of Hispanics polle ....
