Now that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for adolescents, hundreds of thousands of parents likely are searching for a place to get their kids vaccinated.
Many are expected to call their pediatricians only to find they don’t have vaccines in stock, partly because doctors have been worried about wasting doses.
But new guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aims to persuade more doctors to stock the vaccine by assuring them that wasting some doses is an acceptable price to pay for inoculating their patients as quickly as possible. ....

Bipartisan bills gain support for telehealth reform, SDOH coordination

Different pieces of legislation supporting expansion of technology-enabled access to care were the focus on Capitol Hill this week, with bipartisan bills that provide funding for connected social care networks and call for telehealth regulatory reform gained support on separate tracks.
Aligning clinical care and social service
The new bipartisan Leveraging Integrated Networks in Communities (LINC) to Address Social Needs Act was introduced by  Senators Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, and Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut.
The LINC to Address Social Needs Act would offer one-time seed funding for states to help establish communication between social service providers and healthcare organizations for referral, capacity management, and outcome tracking between social service providers and healthcare organizations. ....

First shipment of coronavirus vaccine has shipped, vials will reach all 50 states Monday

The first freight trucks carrying approximately 184,275 vials of the vaccine have departed Pfizer on Sunday. 
Trucks carrying a combined 189 boxes of vaccine vials are expected to arrive in all 50 states on Monday. 
Another 3,900 vials are expected to ship later today to US territories.
On Monday, another 400 boxes packed with approximately 390-thousand vials will ship for arrival on Tuesday.

Dr. Stephen Hahn, the commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, said studies are being planned or in progress now regarding coronavirus vaccine for children younger than 16.
He declined to give a direct answer when asked when the vaccine might be available for children.
“As soon as possible, obviously with great speed,” Hahn said. “Sometimes there are gaps in information, and we have to fill those gaps in information after something like an emergency use authorization to get the answers to the questions that you’re asking.” ....
