UA emphasizes flexibility going into school year

Pat Walker Health Center Halts Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Use


The recommendation follows six reports of a correlated blood-clotting disorder.
It is currently the only vaccine available through the PWHC, said Zac Brown, assistant director of communications for the health center.
PWHC officials contacted those scheduled to receive vaccinations today and tomorrow to let them know that their appointment was canceled because of the recommendations from the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Brown said.
“It’s still kind of really early (and) we don’t have a whole lot of info; this was obviously a prevention precursor that the CDC and FDA wanted to take a closer look at,” Brown said. “Hopefully, once they meet tomorrow we’ll have a lot more information to kind of figure out what the next steps are.” ....

COVID-19 Weekly Update: Statewide Cases at Lowest Since June, PWHC Opens Vaccine to Eligible Razorbacks


Following a slight increase at the beginning of March, statewide COVID-19 cases have dropped below 3,000. Meanwhile, more than 10% of Arkansas residents are now fully vaccinated.
As of Monday, 848,983 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Arkansas, accounting for 60.2% of the state’s total supply, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.
Across the state, 10.4% of residents are fully vaccinated, and 19.4% have received at least one dose. With a vaccination rate of 17,033 doses per day, it will take an estimated seven months for 75% of Arkansas’s population to receive two doses of the vaccine.
Members of the UA community eligible through phases 1A and 1B of the state’s vaccination plan can now make appointments to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at the UA Pat Walker Health Center. ....

On-Campus COVID-19 Cases Climb as Spring Semester Continues


Active COVID-19 cases on the UA campus increased to 95 Friday, up from the 78 reported Tuesday.
Of the active cases, 77 are students, ten are staff, four are faculty and four are categorized as others according to the UA COVID-19 Dashboard.
UA Pat Walker Health Center officials recorded 40 new cases and 28 new recoveries between Tuesday and Friday, according to the dashboard data summary. In addition to 12 self-reported results, 28 new cases were detected through on-campus testing. The Arkansas Department of Health did not report any additional cases.
Since Aug. 10, UA health officials performed 28,547 tests on campus, of the tests performed, 1,309 were positive, generating a 4.6% positivity rate. There have been 2,576 total recoveries, according to the dashboard. ....
