Algoma, WI - Gary Michael Hemm passed away January 7th, after a years long battle with Alzheimer s. He was born August 20th, 1939, in Aurora, Illinois to Russell and Janet (Bergland) Hemm. He was baptized, confirmed and raised in the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora. At a very young age his Grandpa Bergland introduced him to fishing, which became a life long passion. He began working at the age of 12 cutting asparagus, mowing lawns, shoveling snow and delivering the newspaper. After graduating from Aurora East high school in 1957, he joined the army and served honorably for 3 years. His favorite tour of duty was serving in Seoul, South Korea as a photographer and Company Commander s driver after the war had ended. He loved the people and the country, especially visits to the orphanages with his army pals to try and brighten the lives of the many kids. Their favorite thing, hula hoops! After returning home he enrolled in Aurora College, grad ....

MONTREAL Canadian National is preparing to sell the former Algoma Central Railway in Ontario, according to media reports.
In July 2020, CN officials had indicated that they were considering selling off “non-core” lines in Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario, including large parts of the Wisconsin Central. At the time, executives said that the decision was part of its continued push to implement precision scheduled railroading. Ghislain Houle, executive vice-president and chief financial officer, said that lower-performing routes would be better off in the hands of a short line or regional railroad and that the traffic those routes produce would still end up on CN’s main line. ....

With project underway, yearslong boil water notice could end in Keystone

After nearly eight years living under a boil-water advisory, people in Keystone could be drinking water from their home faucets by this time next year.
McDowell Countyâs Elkhorn Creek water project launches its second phase this month. Crews will lay nearly 70,000 feet of new water mains to connect more than 300 people in Northfork, Keystone, Upland, Kyle, Powhatan and Algoma to centralized water service through the McDowell County Public Service District.
The West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council approved the $6.33 million project five years ago. Unlike most water infrastructure projects in the state, this one is entirely funded through grants, meaning the pubic service district will not be burdened paying off interest from a large loan. ....
