COVID vaccine pre-registration plans in the works for those 12 and over, task force says

The Region of Waterloo Vaccine Task Force says plans are in the works to allow those 12–15 years of age to pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccine.
The news comes following Health Canada s approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech shot for that age group on Wednesday.
Eligibility includes individuals between the age of 12 and 15 living in congregate care or developmental service settings, or with highest, high, or at-risk health conditions, said Deputy Police Chief and Vaccine task Force Lead Shirley Hilton.
On Thursday morning at 8 a.m., eligibility will also expand to those aged 50 years and older in Waterloo Region. ....

Vaccines arrive at select Waterloo Region, Guelph pharmacies

Select pharmacies in Waterloo Region and the Guelph area have received a new shipment of vaccines and are getting ready to start taking patients.
Shipments of Astra-Zenenca arrived in the area on Sunday for appointments that one pharmacist says are going fast.
“Well it’s fantastic to be given the opportunity to be part of the solution,” said Bryan Langel, the owner of Shoppers Drug Mart on Dundas Street in Cambridge.
As part of phase two of the pharmacy rollout, 360 additional pharmacies across Ontario will get the vaccine in the coming days.
The 22 locations in Waterloo Region and Guelph are expected to get the Astra-Zeneca this week as well and are making appointments for anyone 55 or older. ....

Here's who will get the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Ontario

Ontario will use the AstraZeneca vaccine for people between the ages of 60 and 64 and will rely on “different pathways” such as pharmacists and health care practitioners to deliver the doses before they expire in early April.
The province is slated to receive an estimated 190,000 doses of the newly-approved AstraZeneca vaccine this month, roughly 114,000 of which have an expiration date of Apr. 2.
Solicitor General Sylvia Jones said the province is ready to distribute the vials to 34 public health units as they arrive and that Ontario has “done all the background work” needed to administer the vaccine.
“We have enough pathways to vaccination to use all vaccines that we get,” Jones told reporters at Queen’s Park ....
