COVID vaccine pre-registration plans in the works for those 12 and over, task force says

The Region of Waterloo Vaccine Task Force says plans are in the works to allow those 12–15 years of age to pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccine. 
The news comes following Health Canada s approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech shot for that age group on Wednesday. 
Eligibility includes individuals between the age of 12 and 15 living in congregate care or developmental service settings, or with highest, high, or at-risk health conditions, said Deputy Police Chief and Vaccine task Force Lead Shirley Hilton.
On Thursday morning at 8 a.m., eligibility will also expand to those aged 50 years and older in Waterloo Region.  ....

COVID-19 Waterloo Region: Province introduces new restrictions, extends stay-at-home order to slow spread

New restrictions to help slow the spread of COVID-19 will come into effect in Waterloo Region and across Ontario this weekend.
Premier Doug Ford made the announcement at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
The updated measures include further restrictions on religious services, outdoor gatherings, and outdoor activities.
The province will also be extending the current stay-at-home order for an additional two weeks.
These are the new measures announced by the province on Friday:
Stay-at-home order remains in effect until at least May 20
Police now have authority to stop people to ask why they ve left their home
Big box stores and essential retailers can operate at 25 per cent capacity ....

Waterloo Region, Wellington stay in red-control zone under COVID-19 framework

Waterloo Region will remain with the same COVID-19 reopening restrictions for at least one more week.
The Ontario government announced several changes for other public health regions frameworks on Friday.
Among the upgraded regions are Huron Perth and Haldimand-Norfolk who are both in the yellow-protect level come Monday. Meanwhile, the London area will soon be in the orange-restriction zone, while Grey Bruce is entering the green.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph will also be staying in the red zone along with Waterloo Region.
Speaking at the region s COVID-19 update on Friday, Region of Waterloo Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang said officials have seen a growing number of cases in the last three days. ....

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph: 4,450 cases, 91 deaths, 4,189 resolved

Along with the Ford government s decision to end the stay-at-home for most of Ontario, it will be decided that Waterloo Region students and those across the province will have their March break postponed until the week of Apr. 12.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce shared the government s decision during a virtual afternoon press conference. The break was originally scheduled to happen between March 15 and March 19 for Waterloo Region s public and Catholic school boards.
  Postponing March break, not cancelling it, is an important way that schools can help to limit community transmission, Lecce said. We recognize that congregation is a key driver of the spread of COVID-19, something we realized over the winter break. ....
