Local Publisher Acquires Estherville, Emmetsburg Newspapers By Staff | May 28, 2021 Local Publisher Acquires Estherville, Emmetsburg Newspapers EMMETSBURG Jerry Wiseman, a longtime newspaper publisher in Iowa, has reached an agreement to purchase the Estherville News and the Emmetsburg Reporter and Democrat from the Ogden Newspapers, the two parties announced Thursday. The sale is set to close June 1. Wiseman, a native of Estherville, currently operates several weeklies in the region. He said he and his wife Rebecca and their business partner Kristin Grabinoski are purchasing the Estherville and Emmetsburg newspapers with an eye toward the future. Wiseman is a native of Estherville who said he “grew up on the farm reading ‘Alley Oop’ and ‘Beetle Bailey’ in the Estherville Daily News.” He and his wife live in Estherville while Grabinoski and her husband Jay, live in nearby Armstrong. ....
RYAN BROWN With confirmation this week that Pennsylvania will lose a congressional seat and an electoral vote in upcoming elections, the struggle for a favorable map has already begun. It’s unlikely that any of the Central or Southwestern Pennsylvania Republicans will lose a seat in redistricting the process of drawing a new map that reflects the new electoral reality. With the GOP solidly in control of the House, the lawmakers who draw congressional maps will be unwilling to punish their own party. Instead, they could draw a map to rope two Democrats into a new district, potentially pitting them against each other and ending the state’s current 9-9 partisan divide in the U.S. House of Representatives. ....
