Korea is lagging behind some other countries in COVID-19 vaccinations apparently due to its failure to preemptively secure vaccines, in addition to the comparatively low competitiveness of domestic pharmaceutical companies in new medicine development.
According to the latest data collated by the University of Oxford-based Our World in Data, the government has administered vaccines to 1.66 percent of the Korean population as of March 30, a little over a month after the country s vaccination program began Feb. 26. ....

Bulgaria's COVID-19 hospitalizations exceed 10,000 - World News

SOFIA, April 1 (Xinhua) Bulgaria s total COVID-19 hospitalizations reached 10,093 on Thursday, a pandemic high for the country.
The Bulgarian Health Ministry said that 772 COVID-19 inpatients were receiving intensive care.
The country registered 4,207 new cases and 129 more deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the respective totals to 342,633 and 13,197, said the ministry.
Meanwhile, 3,869 patients have newly recovered, raising the country s total recoveries to 259,561.
Bulgaria has alloted 472,443 vaccines for use and has administered 13,712 doses so far.
Bulgaria suffers from the highest COVID-19 death rate in the European Union, with a mortality rate of 3.89 per 100 cases, while roughly 6.6 people per 100 have received the vaccine, ranking last in the EU, according to the latest data collated by the University of Oxford-based Our World in Data. ....
