I will have to choose. It is healthy to have such a robust choice. Esther brings a fresh, encouraging and open voice to our diversity efforts in this critical time of this focus. Andy brings local government experience serving on Montpelier’s selectboard and now on Middlebury committees, especially on our library board, working to sustain this essential town asset. You’ll need to decide on Middlebury’s priority for this year, knowing that the following year ushers in more opportunities to seek election to the selectboard. ....
El Luchador Mexican Restaurant Brings the Fighting Spirit to Mountain’s Edge The restaurant from hospitality veteran Andy Hooper features a wall of masks El Luchador Mexican Kitchen + Cantina | In mid-December, hospitality veteran Andy Hooper took possession of the former Burgerim space in Mountain’s Edge to transform it into a neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Four weeks later, he opened El Luchador Mexican Kitchen + Cantina. “We thought it was gonna take a lot longer because of permitting, licensing, and stuff like that but it just flew by,” he says. Hooper originally wanted to build the restaurant in a 4,000-square-foot space in a strip mall next to Locale Italian Kitchen, his standout Italian restaurant in Mountain’s Edge. When COVID hit, he shelved those plans. ....
Louiie Victa Hospitality veteran Andy Hooper says his two favorite cuisines are Italian and Mexican. He already has Locale Italian Kitchen in Mountain’s Edge, and starting today, he opens El Luchador Mexican Kitchen + Cantina, taking over a former Burgerim space in the Mountains Edge Marketplace. Hooper opened the 2,286-square-foot space fast after taking possession in mid-December. Diners can sit outside on the patio with room for 75 or pick up takeout orders at a separate window. He named the restaurant El Luchador, Spanish for the fighter, after WWE and WWF fighters he loved as a child in Tennessee. Diners can start with house-made chips and bean dip made with pinto beans and a chorizo spice mix, or order table-side guacamole, queso dip, or nachos. ....
