View Comments On the heels of a controversy that left the community reeling, a global human rights organization is partnering with Tenafly to promote Holocaust awareness and turn it into a teachable moment. Rather than arguing over what should and should not have been said, we re using this situation as an opportunity to learn, said Tenafly Mayor Mark Zinna at a Friday morning news conference at which the initiative was announced. The Holocaust education program is a collaboration between the borough of Tenafly and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. The initiative will kick off on July 12 with a conversation with Holocaust survivor Mark Schonwetter at borough hall. The event is free and open to the entire community. ....
OUCC, Solar Advocates Want The State To Deny CenterPoint s Reimbursement Request Unable to load the audio player. playpausemuteunmute FILE: Samantha Horton/IPB News The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) and six other groups want Indiana to deny CenterPoint Energy’s request to give people with solar panels fewer credits for energy they deliver to the grid. Right now, electric utilities subtract how much energy someone with solar panels uses from how much they produce for the grid over a whole month. Solar customers then get credits for any excess energy they deliver. Jason Stephenson vice president of CenterPoint s regulatory legal group said this would give new solar customers an unfairly high amount, basically forcing other customers without solar to subsidize their bills. ....
Museum of Newport Irish History lecture explores Irish immigrant experience Daily News staff The Museum of Newport Irish History announces the fifth talk in its 19th Annual Michael F. Crowley Lecture Series, to be presented “virtually” on Wednesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Janet Nolan, history professor emerita and noted author, will present an illustrated talk entitled, “When Harry Met Mary Ann: An Irish Family in an American City,” which explores her own family’s Irish immigrant experience. The story Nolan will share is both a micro and a macro history of one Irish-American family, the Donovan-Nolans, and one New England industrial city, Lynn, Massachusetts. The story is also representative of a far larger story, the story of Irish emigrants to America and the steep slope they climbed into the American middle class, one that is echoed in millions of Irish-American families throughout the United States. ....
