View Comments Downtown Monroe just got a little more colorful with the addition of a mural on the side of Mohawk Seafood Tavern. The new mural, on the southwest corner of Louisville Avenue and N. Eighth Street, welcomes passersby to the arts and entertainment Downtown Monroe has to offer. It was commissioned by the nonprofit Downtown Monroe Alliance and sponsored by Century Next Bank. Jason Byron Nelson, the local artist commissioned for the mural, said he crafted a design within 48 hours of the project s approval and completed the mural in mid-June. We have restaurants, clubs, bars and the brewery there s a lot going on, and sometimes we re thinking just because of the way our city s laid out, maybe people don t know about it, said Nelson, who studied art at the University of Louisiana Monroe.
