Vail chapel fundraiser will honor Vi Brown

Many hands make light work. Vi Brown has two very busy hands that continue to have a huge impact on how the Vail community was built.
She and her late husband, Byron, moved to Vail in 1964 from Denver and never stopped moving.
Those few dozen people who were already in Vail remember the Browns arriving with young son Mike in tow to West Vail, where only about five homes were built. Byron had gotten a job working for a Denver-based real estate company selling lots in Vail.
“They needed someone to move to Vail and finish building a house, so Byron and Vi decided to plant roots here,” Mike Brown said. ....

Kennebec Land Trust celebrates acquisition of Augusta's Howard Hill

They did so without $337,500 in voter-approved Land for Maine’s Future funds awarded to assist in the purchase but held up by Gov. Paul LePage’s refusal to issue $6.5 million in bonds approved by voters in 2010 and $5 million approved in 2012. Those bonds include money the Land for Maine’s Future program has approved for 30 conservation projects, including the $337,500 Kennebec Land Trust officials were counting on to help fund the $1.2 million Howard Hill project. ....

Vail Interfaith Chapel to close weekdays for renovations, weekend services to continue

The Vail Religious Foundation announced that the Vail Interfaith Chapel building will be closed to the public on weekdays through June 15 for construction renovations taking place on site. However, the Vail Interfaith Chapel will remain open on Saturdays and Sundays for regularly scheduled worship services and special events throughout construction this spring. ....

Fundraising committee for Vail chapel takes shape

Pastor Tim Wilbanks, President of the Vail Religious Foundation, on Monday announced the members of the volunteer advisory committee that will steer fundraising efforts related to the Vail Interfaith Chapel’s $10 million 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign.
“This volunteer committee supports restoring and maintaining our beloved Chapel, and values it as one of Vail’s cultural and historic centers,” Wilbanks said. “We are so grateful for their support, not only financially but with their time and energy over these next two years.”
Vail Pioneer Rod Slifer was one of the first to volunteer to help the chapel. Slifer brokered the land deal in the late 1960s when the original chapel building was built. ....
