Even after the coronavirus curtain crept up ever so slightly on Broadway, with glimmers of performance returning to Midtown this month, New York City’s next mayor will likely preside over much of the relaunch of the world’s most celebrated theater district.
Industry insiders hope that major productions might make it back onto The Great White Way sometime in the late summer or early fall, and the return is expected to be staggered as demand grows and the health crisis subsides. In what amounted to an initial teaser, a small crowd took in an abbreviated pop-up performance at the St. James Theatre in early April. ....

For years, New York City’s property tax system has come under fire because homeowners in poor and middle-class neighborhoods often pay more than people who own more valuable homes in tonier parts of town.
Mayor de Blasio, who owns two homes in Park Slope. Brooklyn, and benefits from the current tax system, ran for office in 2013 on a platform devoted to ending New York’s “Tale of Two Cities” and vowed early on in his City Hall tenure to do something about property tax inequities. ....
