Colo. Cannabis Tax Hike Supporters Submit 200K Signatures
Law360 (August 2, 2021, 7:14 PM EDT) Supporters of a Colorado ballot initiative that would ask voters to increase the state s sales tax on retail cannabis and put the money toward tutoring and after-school programs said they have submitted 200,000 signatures to the Colorado secretary of state.
Supporters of Initiative 25 said they submitted the petition to the secretary of state Friday. The proposal would impose an additional 3% tax on retail marijuana beginning in 2022. The state already places a 15% tax on marijuana sales by retailers. The additional tax would increase to 4% in 2023 and 5% beginning in 2024, according to the proposal s final text.. ....

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Supporters of Initiative 65 rallied outside the Mississippi Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Organizers with the “Standup for MS Voters” rally said they are concerned about the Mississippi Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the medical marijuana initiative.
Jonathan Brown said, “We were dealt a big blow when the supreme court held down their decision. We were a little bummed, but now we’re fired up.”

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) A group that was pushing to get Medicaid expansion on the ballot in Mississippi is “reluctantly” suspending its campaign, members announced Wednesday.
The decision comes after the state Supreme Court ruled Friday that a medical marijuana initiative passed by voters this fall is void because Mississippi’s initiative process is outdated. That effectively killed other initiatives for which people are already petitioning.
Organizers of Initiative 76 said in a statement that it is halting its campaign “until there is once again a functional ballot measure process in Mississippi.” ....
