Covid-19: Researchers secure £230,000 grant to develop world's first smart vaccine device

Safe and effective
According to the report published in the journal
News Medical and Life Sciences, microneedles provide a safe and effective method to deliver vaccines with added attributes of requiring lower vaccine doses, permitting low-cost manufacturing. A microneedle delivery patch is easy to apply and minimally invasive.
The researchers believe that their device would help enable a personalised vaccination approach.
Dr Sanjiv Sharma, Project Lead, Swansea University, said in a statement: “Measuring vaccine efficacy is extremely important as it indicates the protective effects of vaccination on an individual via the level of reduction of infection risk in a vaccinated person relative to that of a susceptible, unvaccinated individual. This measure of vaccination effectiveness will address an unmet clinical need and provide an innovative approach to vaccine development.” ....

2021: Hot research topics for the year

OVER the last decade, between 2009 and 2019, 13 highly cited Malaysian researchers published 3,422 papers.
And, the majority of these were funded by varsities, according to the recently released Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) 2020 list.
Some of the top funding universities of these highly cited papers were Universiti Malaya (21% of papers), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) (12% of papers) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (7% of papers).
“We have been working closely with Malaysian institutions to support and drive research excellence.
“These researchers have a great impact on the research community as measured by the rate at which their work is being cited by others, ” said Clarivate Analytics vice-president and South and Southeast Asia head Arvind Pachhapur in a statement. ....
