Area business professionals featured in new exhibit

Salina professional photographer Shelley Griffith will be displaying unique portraits of local business professionals that include elements of their careers in the portraits.
The exhibit “Eye Do” by Griffith is in the virtual Gallery 708 and on display at Salina Public Library. The exhibit will be on display until May 31.
Griffith wanted to do headshots in a different way and attributes her personality and corky attitude for coming up with the idea.
"Everybody does the same thing, so I wanted to do something different," said Griffith. "I have a friend who is a graphic designer, and he had the idea of putting paint on his face. The whole point is to do something different so that their face and what they do along with what company they represent stays in people's minds."

Salina cat reunited with family after short stay at Rolling Hills Zoo

Salina cat reunited with family after short stay at Rolling Hills Zoo
After months of searching, a Salina couple has found their missing black cat.
Kiara, a black shorthair cat, had been found at the Rolling Hills Zoo, 10 miles away from home.
Salina couple Matthew and Kathleen Reyna are animal lovers with two dogs and two cats, and Kiara had been part of the family since Kathleen adopted her as a kitten from a friend.
As the Reyna's have indoor-outdoor cats, it wasn't unusual for the two cats to leave through the back door. Kathleen keeps an eye out for them, and if needed, a shake of the treat box draws them back in, she said.

"If These Hands Could Talk" exhibit celebrates wisdom of a lifetime

“If These Hands Could Talk” exhibit celebrates wisdom of a lifetime
Hands of different kinds, sizes, and shapes will be on display in the  “If these hands could talk” exhibit created by residents of the Eaglecrest Retirement Community. The residents shared in a paragraph all of the things their hands have done throughout their lifetime. The paragraph is displayed in a frame with a photograph of each pair of hands.
Activities Director Regina Marcotte and volunteer Linda Smittle created this project with an idea shared on Facebook as an activity to engage the residents of Eaglecrest during 2020. As each participant's hands were photographed, the residents were asked to reflect upon how their hands helped them fulfilled various experiences in their life.

Londeen's to keep small-town charm as store changes ownership

Londeen's to keep small-town charm as store changes ownership
'Massive inventory reduction sale' to happen at Londeen's
CHAPMAN -  Londeen's has been owned and operated by the same family for over 80 years in downtown Chapman, and as of last Wednesday, the hardware and furniture store has new owners - Rick and Kim Johnson.
The store carries everything from apple cutters to zippers, featuring the motto - "If we don't have it, you don't need it."  The Johnsons are excited to keep the Londeen's Hardware and Furniture store going into this new chapter.
"Eighty years ago when they first started, there was no Dollar General and Walmart, so Londeen's kind of carried everything," Rick Johnson said. "As time has gone on in the last 20 years, people don't think about going to a hardware store to buy a set of dishes or a glass bird or greeting cards that is more like another store like Walmart."
