Fire, passion for cattle burning at Morgan Creek Farms

Passion for cattle burning at Morgan Creek Farms
HOPE - Frigid temperatures this week and last week have made farming and ranching even more difficult in Kansas and throughout the Midwest, and several farmers and ranchers have been looking for new ways to cope and provide care to their livestock in the extreme cold.
Kevin Morgan, of rural Hope, is an animal care and nutrition manager and second-generation farmer and owner of Morgan Creek Farms who has kept his passion and fire for agriculture going strong despite the bitter cold.
Morgan started a fire next to his concrete stock tank, opposite of where the cattle were grazing, to help prevent the water from freezing over on Monday morning. “It just keeps it to where it does not freeze to the side, so it is a little easier to break the ice. It makes it to where it is not quite such a job. You still get a little ax work, but it is not near as strenuous,” said Morgan, who manages several hundred cattle with the help of several ranch hands.
