Punjab starts seizing sugar from mills to sell at notified rate Business April 6, 2021 LAHORE: The Punjab government has started seizing stocks from mills to sell the sweetener in the market at notified rates, following manufacturers’ refusal to reduce sugar price, official sources confirmed on Monday. “We confiscated 500 tons from Macca Sugar Mills on Monday in first ever raid on premises of manufacturers,” said a senior official of the provincial Food Department. The official said that despite clear instructions by the government, no stock of sugar was supplied by mills in the market. “Therefore, we are left with no option but to take action as per law.” ....
Mills refuse to sell sugar at Rs80 per kg Top Story April 4, 2021 LAHORE: The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Punjab Zone Saturday refused to provide sugar for Rs80 per kilogram for the open market. PSMA Punjab leadership including Javed Kayani, Chaudhry Waheed, Ali Saleem and others, told press conference in Lahore that the government should abolish 17 per cent sales tax levied on the sugar sale if it wanted to fix Rs80/kg ex-mill rate of the commodity. They said if the government wanted to fix that rate, it should take the responsibility of paying salaries to the mills staff as well as all other financial liabilities. They said the mills could not afford providing sugar for Rs80/kg, and the government might import it at this rate if it could not increase rate for the local mills’ produce. ....
‘Khursheed’s flour mills, Mumtaz Bhutto’s field provided illegal power connections’ National March 17, 2021 SUKKUR: A task force team of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) on Tuesday conducted a surprise visit to Ketty Mumtaz Bhutto and detected six illegal electricity connections running the tubewells in the agricultural field of former CM Sindh, Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto. Sources said the task force team has reached the conclusion that some of the SEPCO employees were allegedly behind the electricity theft. The team has also requested the FIA to dig out the electricity theft. Sources in SEPCO said that the deputy director technical, Raj Kumar, who has also been enjoying additional charge of divisional commercial manager, was behind all the theft. ....
