Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson bet the second half of his first four-year term on flipping two City Council seats held by members with whom he has battled during the last year.
He appeared to have lost that gambit.
Neither candidate he endorsed Yolanda Faye Williams in District 5 and Donald Parish Jr. in District 7 dealt a fatal blow to incumbents Jaime Resendez and Adam Bazaldua, according to unofficial results.
Resendez staved off a runoff against Terry Perkins, a former pastor at Abundant Grace Church. And in District 7, Bazaldua will face former council member Kevin Felder, not Parish. ....

DALLAS - A Dallas business icon will be honored by a school that supports science, technology, engineering and math.
Dallas ISD trustees are consolidating Pease and Bushman elementary schools to create the Albert Black STEAM Academy.
The southern Dallas campus recognizes the first African American chairman of the Dallas Regional Chamber.
Black said the $31 million project would not be possible without the community’s help.

Dallas ISD announces plans to consolidate two elementary schools

DALLAS Plans to consolidate two elementary schools in Southern Dallas were formally announced this week.
Dallas ISD wants to merge Pease Elementary with Bushman Elementary. Under the proposed consolidation plan, Bushman would become a new S.T.E.A.M academy, or school focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
School district administrators announced on Tuesday that Bushman Elementary would be renamed after Albert Black, a Dallas area businessman and philanthropist. Dallas ISD says its plans for the school would include $31 million in renovations.
Pease Elementary would be transformed into a Pre-K campus. District 5 School Board Trustee Pastor Maxie Johnson announced the school would especially target children of single parents. ....
