After the public mounted pressure on authorities to release the bodycam footage of the April 12  police shooting of a 17-year-old student at  Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, the video was finally released after a nine-day investigation was carried out by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen announced on April 21 that the police involved in the fatal shooting of the teenager was justified.
“This is a self-defense case,” Allen said during a news conference.
On that fateful day, teenager Anthony Thompson Jr. and his girlfriend, Alexus Page, who study at the same school, had reportedly engaged in a physical fight.

The last month has been a nightmare for so many communities; the spa shootings in Atlanta, the attack just outside of Denver, and now the shooting in Indianapolis. Old wounds are very much still present, especially for Coloradoans, who vividly remember the events of the Columbine Shooting on April 20, 1999, 22 years ago this week.

24 hours of peace rally calls for end to violence in Nashville

A 24-hour demonstration to celebrate community and peaceful coexistence, and gather against violence kicked off Friday in Nashville.
The effort, "24 Hour Display of Power: 24 Hours of Complete Peace," will focus on  solidarity and building power amongst community members in an effort to take back the city, community organizer Gicola Lane said Friday.
A rally and march in connection with the demonstration are slated for Saturday.
"The goal is to really just call for absolute peace across the city," Lane said. "Our community is in pain. We have experienced a large influx of violence from multiple directions. We've lost a lot of people to both community and police violence.... We're asking the entire city to display unity."

Knoxville Woman Apologizes for Calling Police on Anthony J. Thompson Jr.

Last week,
The Rootreported that 17-year-old Anthony J. Thompson Jr. was shot and killed by police officers in the restroom of Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville, Tenn., after police responded to a call about a “possibly armed” student.

Law enforcement officials originally reported that before he was killed, Anthony shot one of the officers who had gone into the restroom with their guns drawn, but later they corrected the report saying the bullet that hit the officer didn’t come from Anthony’s gun and that the gun had gone off during a struggle.
Now, the woman who called the police in the first place—who turns out to be the mother of Anthony’s girlfriend—is apologizing for calling the cops, and says she never indicated that Anthony was armed.
