Knox News 40 Under 40: 2016 alumna Carey Parker now CEO of LHP Capital

Today, she s a member of the Leadership Tennessee Class VIII, a graduate of the Leadership Knoxville Class of 2019, serves on the boards of directors for the Legacy Housing Foundation and East Tennessee Community Design Center and the advisory board for the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business Department of Management.
We caught up with Parker about how her career has changed since 2016.
Q: What’s changed in your career since you won 40 Under 40 in 2016?
A: Learning how to work remotely and how to keep a remote workforce engaged and productive. From the start of the pandemic, we embraced remote work and provided resources for employees who chose to work from home. We trusted our employees and gave them the freedom to choose the best work environment. Morale has been high despite the many challenges brought on by COVID-19. We have a very loyal and engaged staff and have made remote work an option for all our corporate employees. ....

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville is one step closer to some upgrades as community organizations work to support and invest in the school.
Leadership Knoxville said Thursday it got the ball rolling on brining electronic signage to the school after meeting with the Austin-East High School Alumni Association.
The organization is partnering with the Tennessee Valley Authority, East Tennessee Foundation, and several area banks to make the upgrades possible.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee Seven people, several with extensive community and sports experience, have been vetted and nominated to serve on the inaugural Knoxville-Knox County sports authority that would oversee financing and construction of a proposed downtown sports stadium.
The seven are Joan Cronan, Alvin Nance, Richard Bass, Rosalyn Tillman, Jeff Hagood, Tim Hill, and Nikitia Thompson.
They must be approved by the Knoxville City Council and Knox County Commission. The governing bodies are expected to review the nominees in the coming weeks. ....

We hear this question all the time at Volunteer East Tennessee: How does someone find the right nonprofit to support, and now, during a pandemic?
There are thousands of nonprofits in Knox County, and most of them depend on volunteers to help deliver services to our community. In a “normal” year, we can easily connect individuals, companies, families, and civic groups to service opportunities.

Life often takes us places we would never imagine. This year did that for almost everyone in the world. I began my lifelong journey by starting Bandit Lites at the age of 12. My growth included the University of Tennessee College of Business and Law School. From there I engaged in the Knoxville and the State of Tennessee communities, including chairing the Chamber of Commerce for several years. My life took me into NFL and NCAA football relationships, as well as deep friendships with NASCAR and other such fields. I eventually landed on the board of the University of Tennessee Medical Center some 15 years ago, as well as many other boards and commissions. Leadership and education ....
