Australian Senate Committee on technology and finance has proposed the establishment of a national blockchain land registry. The report will be passed to lawmakers for approval.
The Australian Senate Committee overseeing technology and finance has called for the launch of a national land registry. It has also offered other proposals, such as expounding on laws regarding smart contracts and setting global standards for Decentralized Ledger Technology (DLT).
In an interim report prepared by the committee, they gave 23 recommendations that surrounded blockchain, corporate taxes, and consumer data. Out of these 23 recommendations, five of them were specific to blockchain and crypto assets. One proposal that stood out is setting global data standards for the industry. ....

The Australian Government needs to act now to save the aviation industry and protect the country’s post-pandemic economy.
Australia’s economy is absolutely reliant on aviation but the Morrison Government is yet to consider continuing support past March. The nation’s JobKeeper scheme runs out at the end of the month and there seem to be no plans to extend it, despite the industry’s continuing Covid-19 problems.
“It’s not an option to do nothing,” ITF’s Scott McDine told ABC NewsRadio “Australia has such a heavy dependence on international travel and trade. We’re just about at the end of the month and we have a government which still hasn’t made a decision.we don’t even know if they’re going to make a decision.” ....

Faced with new legislation in Australia that would force it to pay for news stories it now scrapes for free, Google says it could pull its search engine from the country.
“Google is committed to achieving a workable News Media Bargaining Code,” Google vice president Mel Silva said in an appearance at a public hearing of the Australian Senate Committee that is reviewing the proposed new law. “In its current form, the Code remains unworkable and if it became law would hurt not just Google, but small publishers, small businesses, and the millions of Australians that use our services every day. There is a way forward that allows Google to pay publishers for value, without breaking Google Search and our business in Australia.” ....
