Canberra, Feb 6 : Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said on Saturday that some 2,200 US Marines will begin arriving in the country s Northern Territory over the next five months.
In a statement issued here, the Defence Minister said that the 2021 and also the 10th Marine Rotational Force-Darwin (MRF-D) will consist of around 2,200 troops by June, reports Xinhua news agency.
Reynolds said that under special Covid-19 plans, the incoming Marines will be tested for coronavirus three times, once 72 hours prior to departure and twice while undergoing 14 days of quarantine in a secure facility. ....

MELBOURNE, Australia Australia has selected Boeing’s AH-64E Apache Guardian as it’s next armed reconnaissance helicopter, replacing its Airbus Helicopters Tiger fleet under the Land 4503 program estimated to be worth AU$4-5 billion (U.S. $3–3.8 billion).
The selection of the Apache follows the release of a request for information in July 2019 and was announced by Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds on Friday.
The RFI called for 29 helicopters, with 24 to be based at a single location with two operational armed recon helo squadrons, and a five for training Army pilots and battle captains at the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre at Oakey, Queensland. The two operational Tiger squadrons are currently based in Darwin in the Northern Territory as part of the 1st Aviation Regiment. ....

The defense chiefs of South Korea and Australia held telephone talks Monday and discussed ways to boost exchanges and cooperation in defense and related industry fields, Seoul s defense ministry said.
During the dialogue with Australian Defense Minister Linda Reynolds, South Korea s Defense Minister Suh Wook expressed gratitude to Australian veterans who fought in the 1950-53 Korean War.
He also voiced hope for the further development of the bilateral ties, as next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relationship.
Noting that the two countries have maintained cooperation despite the new coronavirus situation, Suh and Reynolds expected to have diverse chances of face-to-face, high-level meetings next year, according to the ministry. ....
