The vaccines are the ammunition that can stop it, but authorities seem unable to come up with a logical plan to get them distributed. This isn’t just a health care issue. It’s an issue of leadership and logistics. It’s more urgent than ever as new variants of the virus are discovered in this country. Last week, the Jacksonville branch of the NAACP called out Mayor Lenny Curry for the racial disparity in the distribution of vaccines. Black Americans have special challenges when it comes to COVID-19. They are more susceptible to the virus. They are more likely to have pre-existing conditions that affect their recovery. They are more likely to have transportation issues that make it difficult for them to access health care and vaccination sites. And they represent a quarter of our population. ....

Have you or any of your staff participated in that particular program? I have! It is very well-run and efficient. Being all by appointment, the lines move quickly and nobody waits in line for hours. Yes, appointments are difficult to get due to the large number of people. BUT, that is no reason for your paper to be so critical of a very important program and the people working there! ....
