Brands urged to sign binding Bangladesh safety agreement


The report shows that a lot of progress has been made to make factories safer
The witness signatories to the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety say remaining safety hazards in Bangladeshi factories show that apparel brands must not abandon a binding safety programme.
In a new report, 
Unfinished Business: Outstanding safety hazards at garment factories show that the Accord must be extended and expanded , the signatories demonstrate that the Accord s work must continue, and call for brands and retailers to sign a new, legally binding agreement that will allow the Accord s work to be extended and its model to be expanded to other countries. ....

In the aftermath of the Bangladesh Rana Plaza tragedy in 2013, two initiatives were set up to oversee the country s clothing factories for fire, electrical and structural issues – the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety and the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety. The Alliance s tenure comes to an end next month, and there are serious concerns for garment workers if another agreement is not signed soon.
Under the oversight of the Accord and Alliance, Bangladesh now has one of the safest and most transparent ready-made garment (RMG) industries in the world. But that could now under threat. ....

Ex-NAB chief makes new revelations about accord with Broadsheet

ISLAMABAD: Former chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lt-Gen (R) Syed Muhammad Amjad has said Pakistan made an agreement with a firm whose one of the representatives was facing punishment for doing fraud and cheating with public.
The retired general made these startling revelations in his statement recorded with the Broadsheet Inquiry Commission. Being the chairman NAB, General Amjad met Ronad Rudman, Jerry James and Dr Pepper as representatives of Trouvons, who convinced the NAB boss that they had the requisite capabilities and resources to recover Pakistan s looted money abroad.
In his statement, General (retd) Amjad said he was informed that a special vehicle company in the name of Broadsheet LLC (Isle of Man) ( Broadsheet ) and International Asset Recovery Company Limited ( JAR ) would be formed solely to deal with the asset recoveries for Pakistan. ....
