Melanie Berry of Morrill, Maine is the Outstanding Graduating Student in the University of Maine Division of Lifelong Learning. The Dexter native will receive a Bachelor of University Studies with a minor in psychology. Her numerous awards during her UMaine years include the Nontraditional Student Scholarship, the Alpha One Powering Education Scholarship and the Adult Degree Scholarship. A Museum to Celebrate the History of Hip Hop is Set to Open in the Bronx


In 2023, 50 years after the birth of hip-hop, The Universal Hip Hop Museum, a museum celebrating the music’s history, will be breaking ground in the Bronx as part of a $350 million project in the South Bronx known as Bronx Point. This project includes space for nonprofit organizations as well as affordable housing, all overlooking the Harlem River waterfront.
When the museum founders set out to find a space, they wanted to be a part of the Bronx because of hip hop’s roots in the Bronx. “I would like to think … geographically, there’s synergy in the universe and this was an opportunity that came directly to the museum,” says Renee Foster, a publicist who represents the museum. ....

Universal Hip- Hop Museum Celebrates Women In Hip-Hop With A New Women's History Month Campaign

Universal Hip Hop Museum is passing the mic to the women repping the culture with a powerful new campaign. The 
Fresh, Bold, and So Def Women’s Initiative (FBSD), led by the 
Hip Hop Education Center as the museum announces the kick-off of the plan as part of year-round programming leading up to the 15th anniversary of the Year of the Hip Hop Woman.
Fresh, Bold, and So Def Women (FBSD) began as a Hip Hop feminist intervention project for women of all ages to empower, cultivate, and inspire. The project builds upon the foundation laid by the Womanhood Learning Project launched in 2007 at New York University by the Hip Hop Association and a collective of women who joined forces to tell their story of Hip Hop as they know it. “In this new era of Hip Hop, women are once again changing the game by building new pathways that empower and cultivate new talent. The FSU Alumni Association was recognized with a 2021 CASE District III award and received Grand Gold in the category of Alumni/General Interest Magazines produced two times per year for its biannual alumni publication, VIRES magazine.
Mackenzie Alston, Ph.D. (Department of Economics) was selected for a post-doctoral fellowship from the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) to support diversity in economics. The one-year fellowship is open to early-career economists from historically underrepresented demographics within the economics profession and to researchers studying diversity issues.
