STOUGHTON, MA — Stoughton residents elected a familiar face to the select board in Tuesday's special town election.
Louis Gitto will return to the select board after defeating Mark Zamanian 702 votes to 506, according to unofficial results. Gitto has served in town government in several roles over nearly 50 years. That experience includes three terms as a selectman and also serving as a member of the redevelopment authority, finance committee, planning board and master planning committee.
Gitto in his campaign identified getting a new fire station as the town's most important issue. He said the current station on Central Street has been "In deplorable shape for a decade or more."

BRAINTREE, MA — District 2 Town Councilor Steven Sciascia will not seek re-election in the November town election.
Sciascia announced his decision not to run in a Facebook post on June 9.
"I believe that District 2 residents will always be served better by a resident and neighbor they trust than by somebody with political 'experience,' so it was never my intention to run for office again and again," Sciascia said in his post. "Refusing campaign contributions and not having to worry about re-election campaigns has helped me stay focused on listening to the residents."

POINT PLEASANT, NJ – The Point Pleasant council election is set while there are still some questions about who will be running for the two seats up for election on the Point Pleasant Beach borough council.
There were no candidates for the Democratic primary for the Point Beach council; however, there were 20 write-in votes, and on the Republican side, the only two candidates that ran were Michael Ramos and Rosa Crowley and not the two councilmen whose positions are being contested, Andy Cortes and Bob Santanello.
Santanello switched his affiliation from the Republican Party to the Libertarian Party, while Cortes said he was unsure about running back in March.
