An Indian-American group led by several doctors, who trace their origin to Bihar and Jharkhand, has launched a free telemedicine helpline for COVID-19 patients back home.
Led by Dr Avinash Gupta, who is president of Bihar and Jharkhand Association of North America (BJANA), and several of Indian-American doctors, the group is using the internet and apps to provide free healthcare consultancy to those who have tested positive for COVID-19.
This is part of our effort to help in whatever way we can with our people back home, said Alok Kumar, former FIA president. ....

AAPI Turns Challenges into Opportunities, Continues to Lead Efforts Mitigating Covid One Year Later


With the COVID-19 pandemic pushing into its second year, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin continues to make strides in mitigating the virus.
“Turning challenges into opportunities, the deadly pandemic COVID-19 that has been instrumental in the lockdown of almost all major programs and activities around the world, could not lock down the creative minds of AAPI leaders,” said Dr. Sudhakar Jonnalagadda, current president of AAPI, in a statement.
“With coronavirus impacting every aspect of life around the world, posing several challenges in carrying out with numerous plans and programs for AAPI in 2020, we have been right on task and have devoted the past year leading AAPI to stability and greater heights,” the Indian American physician added.  ....

Washington: Indian-American physician Dr Vivek Murthy, President Joe Biden’s nominee to serve as US Surgeon General, is expected to reflect on the death of his seven family members in India and America due to COVID-19 to highlight his plans to end the pandemic during his confirmation hearing on Thursday.
The confirmation hearing of Murthy, 43, by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions comes days after reports that he made more than $2 million from pandemic consulting speeches. ....
