Scientists Describe Detector Goals for Electron-Ion Collider (EIC)
International community of EIC scientists publishes yellow report laying out physics case, detector requirements, and evolving detector concepts for future nuclear physics facility
March 16, 2021
The EIC Yellow Report is published in three volumes: an executive summary, a detailed description of the physics, and a discussion of detector concepts.

UPTON, NY What do you need to study the fine details of the building blocks of matter? A new kind of particle accelerator called an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) planned to be built in the United States over the next decade and a state-of-the-art detector to capture the action when electrons and ions collide. As part of the plan to build the EIC, an international team of more than 400 scientists representing 151 research institutions around the world prepared a detailed re ....

NGC 1808 Starburst Galaxy in Columba - Astronomy Magazine - Interactive Star Charts, Planets, Meteors, Comets, Telescopes

NGC 1808 is barred spiral galaxy located in the southern constellation of Columba. It was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop from Australia, who describe it as a faint nebula . It is a barred spiral with marked similarities to our home Milky Way Galaxy. NGC 1808 is distinguished by a peculiar nucleus, an unusually warped disk, and strange flows of hydrogen gas out from the central regions. Amidst all of this, because NGC 1808 is undergoing with intense star formation activity it has been deemed a starburst galaxy. NGC 1808 is relatively close to our Milky Way, and spans in about 35,000 light-years.
