What we know about the Capitol riot arrests

So far, at least 20 defendants have pleaded guilty. At least seven defendants, including four Oath Keepers, have agreed to cooperate with the government. At least 14 have pleaded guilty to misdemeanors only, while two have pleaded guilty to single counts of felony obstruction.
One defendant has been sentenced to 8 months in prison for a felony, and two defendants have been sentenced for misdemeanor charges: Anna Morgan-Lloyd was sentenced to three years probation and no jail time, and Michael Curzio was sentenced to six months imprisonment, although the courts credited him for the approximately six months he had already spent incarcerated as he waited for the courts to hear his case. ....

Riot Control Training 101 — a memoir

Not surprisingly, given the circumstances in South Africa now, earlier today my wife and I were discussing the violence as well as the newly ordered deployment of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). This deployment is now being carried out in several parts of the nation in response to a growing tide of violence, looting, and more general civil turmoil. What, exactly, SANDF personnel are going to do, what kind of orders and assignments will they have, what training might they have had, and how they will carry out their mission all became big questions in our conversation.
As it turns out, improbable as it may seem to some, I actually had first-hand experience (and training) in demonstrations and riot/crowd control efforts and from both sides of the barricades. Through the early part of the 1970s, university student protests against the Vietnam conflict were becoming increasingly routine on many US campuses, and those were in addition to a series of major protest ....

What we know about the Capitol riot arrests

So far, at least 13 defendants have pleaded guilty, including three Oath Keepers, who have agreed to cooperate with the government. At least nine others have pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges, and one man who took a selfie in the Senate chamber pleaded guilty to obstruction of an official proceeding.
So far just one defendant, Anna Morgan-Lloyd, has been sentenced, to three years probation and no jail time.
For others, plea negotiations have been complicated by the vast amounts of evidence involved in the investigation.
Charges include assaults on officers, destruction of government property and conspiracy
The Justice Department said at least 165 defendants have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, including more than 50 who were charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer. ....

What we know about the 'unprecedented' Capitol riot arrests

America watched as hordes of rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 crushing through windows, pressing up stairways, and sending lawmakers and law enforcement running for their lives. The flood of protesters who streamed into the Capitol that day left federal authorities with an equally immense task: finding and charging those responsible.
The Department of Justice said more than 535 defendants had been arrested so far in connection with the attack, and FBI Director Christopher Wray said the federal law enforcement agency has “hundreds more investigations still ongoing,” including more serious charges still in store. “This is far from over,” Wray said. ....
