A global campaign, backed by leading meat businesses, has been launched to change perceptions of careers in the meat sector, highlight female role models
Image credit: Meat Business Women Seven young women from leading UK and Ireland meat organisations have been shortlisted for this year’s ‘One to Watch’ award, the annual prize for emerging female talent in the meat industry. They were chosen from more than 50 applicants through a judging process assessing their professional impact, creativity, innovation, industry knowledge and vision for the meat industry. In keeping with Meat Business Women’s mission to inspire the next generation of female talent, candidates were also evaluated on their interpersonal skills, commitment to mentoring and ability to inspire others. Held every three years, Beef Australia 2021 will welcome tens of thousands of visitors from across Australia on May 2-8 and showcase Australia's diverse beef industry. "The event will be as large as ever, with an abundance of new offerings and importantly, a new virtual component should people not be able to attend in person," he says. Also speaking at the event will be Heidi Robertson, corporate head of diversity and inclusion and employer brand at ABB, and Gerry Maguire, managing director of Linden Foods. Marks & Spencer’s Katharine Haenelt, head of trading for meat, fish, poultry, deli, dairy and bakery, will chair a roundtable debate of meat processor CEOs. The theme of this year’s conference, which takes place virtually on May 26, is ‘transformation’.
