The student government at Rutgers Law School has backed down on its requirement for student groups to promote Critical Race Theory in order to receive funding, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE).
Critical Race Theory is an academic movement occurring at schools across the country that teaches children and college students that the U.S. is fundamentally racist, and that they must view every social interaction and person in terms of race or color in order to be “antiracist.” ....

It was the reply-all no one wanted, and it came on a Friday in October just after lunch, when the students at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry were in clinical rotations with patients or had checked out for the weekend. The inciting email was sent by the college dean,
David Johnsen, addressing the September 22, 2020, executive order from then president
Donald Trump that banned diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training for the military, federal agencies, government contractors, and recipients of federal grants, including universities and nonprofits.
Johnsen’s email didn’t condemn the president, nor did it mention the president by name. It did voice concern about the effects of the order, which had brought DEI initiatives across the country to a sudden halt. “Though we understand the importance of complying to avoid a potentially devastating impact on University of Iowa operat ....

Group Sues Virginia Tech over 'Bias-Response Teams,' 'Speech Codes'

13 Apr 2021
Free speech advocacy organization Speech First has filed a lawsuit against Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University better known as Virginia Tech over its campus censorship protocols, including ‘bias-response teams’ and ‘speech codes,’ both of which play roles in the management of speech outlined by Virginia Tech’s broader discourse-regulating framework.
The lawsuit’s section on “bias-response teams” appears to be the primary focus of the organization, and is also an area where Speech First has found legal success at other colleges. According to the organization, the “Orwellian” teams “encourage students to monitor each others’ speech and report incidents of ‘bias. ” Thereafter, the “bias-response teams” will “log the incident, investigate it… attempt to reeducate the ‘offender,’ and can recommend formal or informal discipline.” One of the foremost concerns with disciplining “bias” is that the label c ....

Georgetown Students Support Voting Reform Proposal, Then Find Out It's Georgia's Law

13 Apr 2021
Students at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. expressed support for voting reform when asked what they thought about specific measures taken to ensure election integrity then they found out the reforms are from Georgia’s new voting law.
Campus Reform reporter Addison Smith read parts of the new voting law to Georgetown students to get their reaction to it before telling them that the legislation is from Georgia.
“We’re from Georgia, so there’s a lot of voter suppression in Georgia, and I think that there needs to be a lot more freedom and accessibility towards polls and extending hours,” said one student being interviewed with her friend. ....
